For your visa or residence permit
Proof of accommodation for a Czech visa or residence permit
To get a long-stay visa or a residence permit, or to report a new address, you have to prove where you’ll live. Fill in the owner’s confirmation of accommodation here, in Czech as the office reads it, print it, and see how the owner gets the signature verified.
In short: a lease signed by you and the landlord is enough, and nobody’s signature needs verifying, as long as you add proof that the landlord may let the flat, such as an extract from the land registry. With no lease, the owner (or the tenant, if you sublet) signs a confirmation of accommodation, and their signature has to be officially verified.
Which document proves where you live
The Foreigners Act accepts three kinds of proof. Hand in the original or an officially verified copy.
A lease or sublease
A lease, a sublease or an accommodation contract, or a hostel’s or student hall’s confirmation. Nobody’s signature needs verifying. Add proof that the landlord may let the flat, such as an extract from the land registry; with a sublease, add the main lease too.
You own the flat
Your purchase contract, or an extract from the land registry (list vlastnictví) that names you as an owner.
The owner’s confirmation
The owner, or another person entitled to let the flat, confirms that they give you accommodation, with their signature officially verified. Use it when you have no lease: staying with family or friends, or renting a room in someone’s home. The Foreign Ministry’s own forms are linked below (Word files); the confirmation on this page follows them line by line.
The confirmation
Fill in the confirmation of accommodation
Type the owner’s details, yours and the flat’s. The confirmation is laid out as the Foreign Ministry’s form, in Czech, the language the office reads, with a translation to check it against. Print it filled in: an official won’t verify a signature on a blank form.
What you type stays on this page. It isn’t sent or saved anywhere, and it’s gone when you close the page.
The form’s own choices. A tenant who signs adds their lease.

Prints the confirmation alone: the Czech page, then the translation on a page of its own. Only the Czech page is signed, verified and handed in.
Ask the owner for it
Most owners have never seen the form. Send them this message in Czech, with the printed confirmation or a link to this page.
How the owner gets the signature verified
Verifying a signature (legalizace) confirms only who signed, not what the paper says. The owner brings an ID document and signs in front of the official, or confirms there that the signature is theirs. Any of these will do.
At a Czech POINT counter or a town hall
Post offices with a Czech POINT counter and many town and district halls verify signatures while you wait, for a fee per signature.
At a notary
Any notary in Czechia can verify a signature too.
In front of the ministry’s official
The Interior Ministry’s form says the signature needn’t be verified if the owner signs in front of an authorised official of its migration department, so they can come with you when you apply. The act itself says so for permanent residence.
Electronically
The owner can send the confirmation to the Interior Ministry signed with a guaranteed electronic signature, or from their data box (datová schránka). The act accepts an electronic confirmation signed in a way that counts as a handwritten signature.
If the owner is abroad
A Czech embassy or consulate can verify the signature. A foreign notary’s verification counts only with an apostille or, for some countries, a superlegalisation.
What the office checks
Each rule links the section of law or the ministry’s page it comes from.
The building must be one for living in
The flat must be in a building with a building number (číslo popisné or evidenční) that is approved for housing, lodging or recreation. A unit approved as an office or a studio (ateliér) doesn’t count.
Get it signed close to the day you apply
Documents for a long-stay visa may be at most 180 days old when you hand them in, and the act applies the same rule to long-term residence permits and their extension.
With a lease, show the landlord may let the flat
The Foreign Ministry asks for proof that whoever let you the flat is entitled to, usually an extract from the land registry. You can look up the owner for free in the land registry’s online viewer.
Who signs the confirmation
The owner named in the land registry, or a tenant, who then adds their own lease. One co-owner, spouse or joint tenant is enough. A company signs as its entry in the commercial register says. Someone signing on the owner’s behalf hands in the power of attorney too, with the owner’s signature on it verified.
Have the Czech page verified, filled in
An official may refuse to verify a signature on a paper in a language they don’t know if it has no certified Czech translation, and won’t verify one on a blank form. Sign the Czech confirmation, filled in, and keep the translation apart.
Originals or verified copies
Hand in the original documents or officially verified copies. Documents from abroad need an apostille or a superlegalisation, and a certified translation into Czech.
EU citizens
EU, EEA and Swiss citizens asking for a registration certificate hand in proof of accommodation too, but the owner’s signature on a confirmation needn’t be verified.
Temporary protection
With temporary protection you hand in proof of accommodation when you apply, unless the state houses you, and you report a new address to the Interior Ministry within 3 working days, with a new proof. A lease is accepted, but the ministry can ask for a confirmation with a verified signature.
Whoever houses you must give you one
Whoever provides a foreigner’s accommodation must give them a proof of accommodation if asked, saying how long the accommodation is provided for.
Moving to another flat
On a long-stay visa or a long-term residence permit, report a move to the Interior Ministry within 30 days; the ministry can ask for the proof of accommodation for the new flat. EU citizens report a new address too.
Every report and deadline for your residence, with the forms, is in expat paperwork; health insurance and the rest of moving in are in the moving checklist.
Questions
Proof of accommodation, answered
Is my lease enough, or do I need the owner’s confirmation?
A lease or sublease signed by both sides is enough, and its signatures needn’t be verified. Add proof that the landlord may let the flat, such as an extract from the land registry, and with a sublease add the main lease. You need the owner’s confirmation when you have no lease, for example when you stay with family or friends.
Does the signature on the confirmation have to be verified?
Yes, for a long-stay visa, a long-term residence permit and permanent residence. The owner has it verified at a Czech POINT counter, a town hall, a notary or a Czech embassy, or signs in front of the Interior Ministry’s official, or sends the confirmation from their data box or with a guaranteed electronic signature. Signatures on a lease needn’t be verified.
Who signs it if I sublet a room?
The person entitled to let it to you: the owner named in the land registry, or the tenant you sublet from, who adds their own lease. One co-owner, spouse or joint tenant is enough.
What if a company owns the flat?
Pick “A company” in the form. The confirmation then gives the company’s name, ID number (IČ) and address, and is signed by its statutory body or an employee it authorised, as its entry in the commercial register says, with the signature verified.
Can I use a studio (ateliér) or an office unit?
No. The law accepts accommodation only in a building with a building number that is approved for housing, lodging or recreation. Units approved as offices or studios don’t count, even if people live in them.
I’m an EU citizen. Do I need it?
For a registration certificate you hand in proof of accommodation too, but a confirmation from the owner needn’t have a verified signature.
I have temporary protection. What do I need?
Proof of accommodation when you apply, unless the state houses you, and a new one each time you move: report the new address to the Interior Ministry within 3 working days. A lease is accepted, but the ministry can ask for the owner’s confirmation with a verified signature, which this page fills in.
How old can the confirmation be?
At most 180 days on the day you apply, like every document for a long-stay visa or a long-term residence permit apart from your passport, civil-status documents and photo.
What if my landlord won’t give me one?
The Foreigners Act says whoever provides a foreigner’s accommodation must give them a proof of accommodation if asked, saying for how long. If your landlord still refuses, your lease with proof of their right to let the flat is proof too.
Is there a Word or PDF version of the form?
The Foreign Ministry publishes the form as Word files, one for a person and one for a company, linked on this page. The confirmation here follows them line by line, so you can fill it in and print it, or save it as a PDF from the print window.
Does Bytky keep what I type?
No. The details stay in your browser while the page is open. Nothing is sent, saved or put in the page’s address, and closing the page clears them.
