Accountants and tax advisers in Prague

A tax adviser (daňový poradce) has passed the Chamber of Tax Advisers' exam, is in its list, must carry liability insurance and may give tax advice for a living and act for you in tax matters (Act 523/1992 Coll.). An accounting firm holds the accounting trade licence, which needs a qualification and years of practice, and keeps your books and tax records. Many firms on this list are both. Each firm's page says which register it is in.

Yes. When a tax adviser or an advocate files your income tax return, it's due six months after the tax year ends instead of three, or four when you file online (Tax Code, Act 280/2009 Coll., §136). For a calendar year that's 1 July, or the next working day when 1 July falls on a weekend or a public holiday (§33). An accounting firm that isn't a tax adviser doesn't move the deadline. Anyone you give a power of attorney can deal with the tax office for you (§27).

Say what you need: a one-off tax return, bookkeeping for a trade licence through the year, rent from a flat, or income from abroad. Ask what they need from you and by when, whether they file the return and the social and health insurance overviews, whether the price is fixed or by the hour, and whether they'll deal with the tax office for you.
