Who's listed

A firm is listed only when all of these hold. Bytky lists firms; it doesn't rate or vouch for them.

  1. It's registered and active in ARES, the business register, and its IČO is on its own website.
  2. It's a court translator in the Ministry of Justice's register, as only court translators may make a sworn translation, or a translation agency with the trade licence for translating.
  3. It's easy to contact: a website, a phone number, and an email or a quote form.
  4. It has strong public reviews: one source with at least 20 reviews, averaging at least 90 % on Firmy.cz or 4,5 of 5 on Google or Trustpilot. A firm in its profession's official register, which admits it after checks and an exam and can strike it off, needs only 10 reviews from one source, at the same average.
  5. It makes sworn translations in Prague, or, as an agency, delivers them from court translators. Translators who make only ordinary translations, and marketplaces that pass a job on, aren't listed.

How the list is ordered

Firms with the most public reviews come first. Nobody pays to be listed or to move up. Advertising, when it comes, is labelled and sits beside the list, never in it.

Questions

Getting a sworn translation in Prague

What is a sworn translation?

A translation made by a court translator in the Ministry of Justice's register (Act 354/2019 Coll.). It's bound to the original or a copy with a cord fixed under the translator's round seal, and ends with the translator's clause. Czech offices call it an official translation (úřední překlad) and ask for one with documents in other languages: the Interior Ministry for a residence permit, the registry office for a wedding, the Ministry of Education for school recognition.

Can the translator certify a copy of my document?

No. A court translator binds the translation to your original, to a plain copy, or to a certified copy made elsewhere. Copies are certified at a Czech POINT counter (post offices and town halls) or by a notary. Ask the translator which the office you're going to wants.

Do I need an apostille as well?

Often, for a document issued abroad. The Interior Ministry asks for a foreign public document to be apostilled or superlegalised first and then officially translated, unless a treaty or EU rule exempts it. The apostille comes from the country that issued the document, so get it before you have the document translated.

Which firms speak English or Ukrainian?

Pick the language above the list. A language is listed only when the firm's own website has a version in it, says the firm serves customers in it or translates it, or the official register the firm is in lists it.

Can a firm pay to be listed or to move up?

No. Firms are listed when they meet the bar and ordered by how many public reviews they have. Advertising, when it comes, is labelled and sits beside the list, never in it.

How does a firm get listed or change its page?

Email partners@bytky.com from an address on the firm's website. We list firms that meet the bar, and correct or remove a page within two working days.
