Read in this order if you’re new to it.

  1. Health insuranceWork for an employer based in Czechia or hold permanent residence, and you're in public health insurance with one of seven insurers. Most other people from outside the EU need comprehensive insurance from an insurer licensed in Czechia.
  2. Find a doctorYou choose a GP who has a contract with your health insurer and sign a registration form at the surgery. You can change once every 3 months, and if no surgery will take you, finding one is your insurer's job.
  3. Emergencies and pharmaciesCall 155 for an ambulance, or 112 when you need more than one service or aren't sure: 112 also answers in English. Out of hours, the pohotovost service treats you for a 90 Kč fee, and prescriptions are electronic codes any pharmacy can fill.
